Making circuits

Our topic of Energy has really taken off in Year 6. Wednesday morning turned into a Science morning with the children working in small groups to create a circuit using the correct components. They then had to draw a detailed, labelled diagram of their circuit and decide how they could make the motor spin faster. The children really enjoyed the morning and many of them would have carried on all day making circuits had they been allowed!

Children in Need

Children in Need Day
Year 6 had a fantastic day for Children in Need. The theme was pjs this year so Year 6 turned up in their favourite pjs, We've never seen so many onesies.
They all started off the day with a maths Pudsey problem solving hunt in the playground, it proved very popular. The children worked in pairs to answer 20 maths questions. Then all the school went into the hall for a special Children in Need assembly led by Mrs Carter and the school council. The school council donated £1 for every teacher to do a challenge, Mr Williams enjoyed his challenge of holding a ballet pose a little too much!
The afternoon was led entirely by Year 6 and their stalls. The whole school came to visit the stalls and helped to raise a huge total of £1347. A special thank you to all the children and parents of year 6 for help with the stalls.

Energy

Our new topic is Energy. Throughout this topic we will be finding out the advantages and disadvantages of the different sources of energy. We will be developing our persuasive writing skills through writing letters to persuade an audience to change their minds of energy.
We will be learning about electricity and the dangers associated. We will be making circuits and explaining how electricity works. We will be getting creative and designing our own electric cars, making them and testing to see whether they work.
We can't wait to get started with this topic as it is very hands on and creative. Pictures to follow.

Why don't you try answering the question's in this game and help Ollie to save energy in his house?

Children In Need

Remember that next Friday, November 15th, you will be in charge of leading the Children In Need stalls. You need to work with a few of your friends to come up with an idea that will raise lots of money. You will need to create any advertising posters, provide prizes etc try to be as creative as you can and remember your aim is to raise money not spend money!!
Mr Williams and Miss Morgan can't wait to see the ideas you come up with, Good Luck!
