We had a fantastic school trip today.

This morning we visited the Alice Street Mosque in Butetown.

It is the only purpose built Mosque in Cardiff.

We had to take off our shoes to enter the prayer area.

We had a very warm welcome from the Imam.

We learnt that men and women are segregated during prayer time.

Women sit behind the big wooden doors in the background.
This is so that men and women are not distracted during prayers.

Muslims have to pray 5 times a day. This clock shows the times they must pray.

We were shown the Koran, the holy book of Islam.

Every Mosque has a dome.

Prayer beads.

We were given a guided tour of the Mosque (yes...the boys were allowed).

We learnt a lot about Islam today and thank the Mosque and the Imam for their warm welcome.

We ate our lunch in Cardiff Bay.

After lunch we went to the Sikh Gurudwara in Riverside.

Gurudwara means 'Door of the Temple'.

Today we were lucky enough to see the Festival of the Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev.

The Sikh Temple is also an open house where everyone is entitled to food.

In the kitchens they were busy preparing food for us.

We were allowed as much as we could eat and drink.

Sorry that there are no photos of the boys, but within the Sikh religion we had to be kept apart.

The members of the Gurudwara were very generous and hospitable.

It was a really enjoyable experience, and a privilege to be allowed to take part in such an important festival.

As the day finished early, we then went to Llandaf fields for a well deserved run around.
