Making circuits
Our topic of Energy has really taken off in Year 6. Wednesday morning turned into a Science morning with the children working in small groups to create a circuit using the correct components. They then had to draw a detailed, labelled diagram of their circuit and decide how they could make the motor spin faster. The children really enjoyed the morning and many of them would have carried on all day making circuits had they been allowed!
Children in Need
Children in Need Day
Year 6 had a fantastic day for Children in Need. The theme was pjs this year so Year 6 turned up in their favourite pjs, We've never seen so many onesies.
They all started off the day with a maths Pudsey problem solving hunt in the playground, it proved very popular. The children worked in pairs to answer 20 maths questions. Then all the school went into the hall for a special Children in Need assembly led by Mrs Carter and the school council. The school council donated £1 for every teacher to do a challenge, Mr Williams enjoyed his challenge of holding a ballet pose a little too much!
The afternoon was led entirely by Year 6 and their stalls. The whole school came to visit the stalls and helped to raise a huge total of £1347. A special thank you to all the children and parents of year 6 for help with the stalls.

Congratulations!!
Well done to all of Year 6! You all put in a fantastic effort on Friday to help set up and run the stalls for Children in Need, it was lovely to see you all so involved and helping each other to succeed. I am pleased to announce that you helped Pontyclun Primary to raise £1,375. We even managed to get a mention on the Children in Need programme. More pictures will follow on Monday

Energy
Our new topic is Energy. Throughout this topic we will be finding out the advantages and disadvantages of the different sources of energy. We will be developing our persuasive writing skills through writing letters to persuade an audience to change their minds of energy.
We will be learning about electricity and the dangers associated. We will be making circuits and explaining how electricity works. We will be getting creative and designing our own electric cars, making them and testing to see whether they work.
We can't wait to get started with this topic as it is very hands on and creative. Pictures to follow.
Why don't you try answering the question's in this game and help Ollie to save energy in his house?
Children In Need
Remember that next Friday, November 15th, you will be in charge of leading the Children In Need stalls. You need to work with a few of your friends to come up with an idea that will raise lots of money. You will need to create any advertising posters, provide prizes etc try to be as creative as you can and remember your aim is to raise money not spend money!!
Mr Williams and Miss Morgan can't wait to see the ideas you come up with, Good Luck!

Gugafit
We have been lucky enough to be chosen as a Gugafit school. Gugafit is a scheme run by Cardiff City football club encouraging all children to get up and get active. This week we were able to participate in a Gugafit demonstration where we were able to get fit whilst working out to our favourite songs, even Miss Morgan and Mr Williams joined in.

Macbeth
As part of our Heroes and Villains topic we are focusing on
Shakespeare's Macbeth. We have also been fortunate enough to be chosen as one
of only 1000 schools in the UK to join the Shakespeare's schools festival. This
event allows us to put on a performance of Macbeth with the children of year 6
in the Wales Millennium Centre. Auditions have taken place and the children
will be informed next week as to which part they will be playing. Then the hard
task of practising will begin, photos will be uploaded as soon as this starts.
For your information the Muni in Pontypridd is showing
Macbeth on Monday 7th October at 7.30 pm, tickets cost £5.50. This
would be a fantastic opportunity for the children to see a performance of the
show before they put it on themselves.
Thanks for your continued support

Year 6 Autumn Term 1
Welcome back to school, we hope you have had a fantastic summer holidays!
This term we are studying the topic Heroes and Villains, we have already started this fantastic topic and the children are really enjoying it!.
In our first topic lesson we looked at famous heroes and villains, the children had to identify who the famous people were (this proved a bit tricky for some) and then they had to decide what that person was famous for (again this was very tricky).
In English we have begun to read Shakespeare's Macbeth and are beginning to discuss which characters might be heroes, villains or both. The children have also chosen their own heroes or villains to draw portraits of in Art and create web pages during their ICT lessons.
Below you will some more information about what we will be covering during this half term;
The focus of our topic is History, with children gaining first hand experiences of famous Heroes and Villains from both the past and now.
The children will be discussing what it takes to become a Hero
Famous Welsh Heroes and Villains
Writing news reports reporting on the actions of Heroes and Villains
Writing and performing speeches pretending to be an inspirational person in their chosen field
Drawing famous Heroes and Villains in the form of Andy Warhol's pop art
Studying and performing the story Macbeth
Homework in Year 6
The children have been provided with homework books which we have asked them to cover and make their own. Every Monday the children will be given both English and Maths homework to be completed by the Friday. The children should stick their homework in their homework book in order to keep it safe.
Some weeks the children may be asked to complete topic homework and this should be presented neatly in their homework books.
For more information or guidance please do not hesitate to come and speak to us
