Gugafit

We have been lucky enough to be chosen as a Gugafit school. Gugafit is a scheme run by Cardiff City football club encouraging all children to get up and get active. This week we were able to participate in a Gugafit demonstration where we were able to get fit whilst working out to our favourite songs, even Miss Morgan and Mr Williams joined in.

Macbeth
As part of our Heroes and Villains topic we are focusing on Shakespeare's Macbeth. We have also been fortunate enough to be chosen as one of only 1000 schools in the UK to join the Shakespeare's schools festival. This event allows us to put on a performance of Macbeth with the children of year 6 in the Wales Millennium Centre. Auditions have taken place and the children will be informed next week as to which part they will be playing. Then the hard task of practising will begin, photos will be uploaded as soon as this starts.

For your information the Muni in Pontypridd is showing Macbeth on Monday 7th October at 7.30 pm, tickets cost £5.50. This would be a fantastic opportunity for the children to see a performance of the show before they put it on themselves.
Thanks for your continued support

Year 6 Autumn Term 1

Welcome back to school, we hope you have had a fantastic summer holidays!
This term we are studying the topic Heroes and Villains, we have already started this fantastic topic and the children are really enjoying it!.
In our first topic lesson we looked at famous heroes and villains, the children had to identify who the famous people were (this proved a bit tricky for some) and then they had to decide what that person was famous for (again this was very tricky).
In English we have begun to read Shakespeare's Macbeth and are beginning to discuss which characters might be heroes, villains or both. The children have also chosen their own heroes or villains to draw portraits of in Art and create web pages during their ICT lessons.
 Below you will some more information about what we will be covering during this half term;

The focus of our topic is History, with children gaining first hand experiences of famous Heroes and Villains from both the past and now.
The children will be discussing what it takes to become a Hero
Famous Welsh Heroes and Villains
Writing news reports reporting on the actions of Heroes and Villains
Writing and performing speeches pretending to be an inspirational person in their chosen field
Drawing famous Heroes and Villains in the form of Andy Warhol's pop art
Studying and performing the story Macbeth

Homework in Year 6
The children have been provided with homework books which we have asked them to cover and make their own. Every Monday the children will be given both English and Maths homework to be completed by the Friday. The children should stick their homework in their homework book in order to keep it safe.
Some weeks the children may be asked to complete topic homework and this should be presented neatly in their homework books.
