A New Term.

This term our new topic is called 'Going, Going, Gone'. We will be studying local rivers and looking a lot at the environment. We have an educational trip to the Cilfynydd Environment Centre on Thursday 7th of May.
To begin our topic we watched a video about the source of a river and its various features.
We have already found out that:-
  • A TRIBUTARY is a stream that joins a river.
  • IRRIGATION is when a channel is cut to divert water from rivers to farmland.
  • A MEANDER is when a river twists and turns.
  • THE SOURCE is the beginning of a river.

  • AN ESTUARY is the tidal mouth of a river.

We also read some factual and diary extracts about some explorers who tried to find the source of the Nile. Their names were Richard Burton and John Speke. They were two very different personalities! They argued all the time and were very competitive. We are writing role plays about their adventures.

Here we are writing our role plays. When we finish them you might be able to watch some on the Blog.
