What a FANTASTIC morning!

Y6 were invited to Jamie' Italian in Cardiff for a tour and some food tasting, by Gary, the head chef.

We began by having a tour of the kitchens and storage area.

We walked past £6000 of dried goods before entering the kitchen.
Gary explained that some of the chefs work up to 18 hours a day!

It was boiling in the kitchen.....!

Gary then told us that he has over £6000 of dried and cured meats hanging in the restaurant.

We then saw pasta being made. Each pasta machine is worth over £12ooo!

We met Angelo, the pasta maker. He makes over three and a half THOUSAND portions of pasta a week.

Next came the FOOD TASTING!!!! AMAZING!

To start we had
MEAT ANTIPASTI PLANK
CURED MATS
Tuscan fennel salami, pistachio mortadella, San Daniele prosciutto, Schiaccita piccante.
ITALIAN CHEESES
Buffalo mozzarella and pecorino with chilli jam.
PICKLES
Curly green chillies, Gaeta olives and caper berries.
CRUNCHY SALAD
Shaved root veg with chilli, lemon and mint.

As if that was not enough... it was followed by....

SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE
A classic ragu of beef, pork, herbs, Chianti and Parmesan with crunchy herby breadcrumbs.
and
TURBO FUSILLI ARRABIATA
Sweet and spice tomato sauce with herby breadcrumbs and Parmesan sprinkled with Scotch Bonnet chillies.
We had a fantastic morning.
I would like to give a HUGE thanks to Gary and his staff for such an amazing treat.
