On Monday afternoon J8 continued with their P.S.E lessons on arguments and how to resolve them.

Each group was given a situation to re-enact.

We noticed that tone of voice and body language could really affect whether an argument would develop, or whether it would be resolved quickly.

We learned that we should think of the motives of people who try to start arguments, and to make our responses fit the situation.

Today Y6 completed the challenge 'A Fruity Fiasco'.
We had to solve a crime committed in Pontyclun Primary School, using our measuring skills.

We were given some clues about the crime, that we had to solve, using various units of measure.

We needed to use our practical measuring skills and thinking skills to work out the various clues.

We had to think about converting units of measure e.g. 100cm=1m so 160cm = 1.6m.
The whole crime will be posted at a later date for everyone at home to try to solve!

Well done Year Six, you will soon have your reward!

Remember your homework for this long weekend. You need to use as many sources as you can to find out about rationing and food during WW2. Look back at the information on the blog, ask someone you know who lived during this time, use books or encyclopedias, access the Internet or use these hyperlinks to help you.

In Pontyclun we are very lucky to have such fantastic support from our peripatetic music teachers.

The children get so much from learning a musical instrument.

It helps with their NUMBER, COMMUNICATION and THINKING skills.

Experts say that playing a musical instrument can help exercise brain power and could possibly be a factor in extending children's intelligence.

Mrs Lewis and Mr Haughty have worked very hard to enhance the musical experience of many of our pupils.

We are proud to say that we are the ONLY school in R.C.T. to have an orchestra.
You can see why.... it is due to the dedication and hard work of our pupils and peri teachers.

Today in Science we continued with our investigation into the functions of the human heart.

We began by taking our resting pulse rate.

We took this three times and then used our NUMBER skills to make an average.

Our COMMUNICATION skills were also used.

We then found out the average resting pulse rates of the whole class and put them in order.

Our next task was to place our findings in a graph, using our NUMBER skills yet again.

Today in Maths Mr Williams's class investigated the question' WHO HAS THE LONGEST ARMS IN THE CLASS, BOYS OR GIRLS?'

We were split into 5 groups and given a selection of measuring equipment: a calculator, a large piece of card, 4 pieces of lined paper and a piece of graph paper.

We were given one hour to think of a method for our enquiry and then jobs were allocated within our groups.

All groups presented their findings at the end of the session and communicated them to the class.

Click on the pictures to discover our findings.

In Maths today Mrs Davies's class investigated units of measurement, tools of measurement and perimeter. Our groups were given different instruments of measure. These included rulers, measuring tapes and trundle wheels.

We had to measure various perimeters, choose the appropriate instruments of measure, and convert our measures to different units.

We used COMMUNICATION skills working within our groups, and of course NUMBER SKILLS.
