Party! Party! Party! Year 6 had a great party today. Lots of crisps, cakes and E Numbers!!
How hyper -active are you all tonight?

To use up some of that energy we held a Disco Dancing competition. The J8 winner was Llewelyn Davies, an impostor from Llanhari Comp, who earned a kiss from his mother as a prize!
J7 winners were Ellie Jarman and Josh Bridge.
The ultimate winner was Josh. Mr Williams and I have never seen such moves. Mr Williams claims he taught them all he knows from his diva days in the Black Prince, but I doubt it!

We also held a 'Limbo' competition.
J7 was represented by Lilly Pryor, Emily McKenzie, James Evans and Mackenzie Melody.
J8 was represented by Charlie Summers and Kierryn Sheehy.
Note the difference in numbers!!!!!!
Nevertheless J Great provided us with the two winners, Charlie becoming the ultimate champion!

On Tuesday 15th of December, Year 6 went to Y Pant to perform some items from our Christmas Show. It was an interesting morning as we had only started to learn the songs the day before!

The children did really well and performed as if we had been practising for ages.

We even entertained the village as we walked through the lanes having a last minute rehearsal.

Well done Ewan for his cornet playing. I hope to see him next year in Y Pant's orchestra.

On Thursday afternoon we finally made our 'Super Salads and Smoothies'.

There was great excitement as every group chopped, cut and blended their ingredients.

Some groups had brought added extras such as cocktail umbrellas, fruit skewers and fancy glasses.

Mr Williams looked very fetching.

I didn't dare try this broccoli and strawberry smoothie. Call me a coward but..........?

Finally, after lots of hard work, we presented our salads and smoothies to both classes.

We couldn't wait to get started on the tasting of our 'creations'.

The children have worked really hard this week, and behaved superbly. They were allowed to let their hair down this afternoon, or decorate themselves with cocktail umbrellas....whichever took their fancy!

On Tuesday afternoon we had to examine different historical sources, and assess their advantages and disadvantages.

We were given some World War Two food to try. This included brawn, tongue, spam, carrot chutney, pickled cabbage, lemon curd and apples with condensed milk. Some food items were more popular than others!

We also looked at some primary sources, including diary extracts and recipes.

Another source was secondary sources - books.

We also used the Internet to find out information.

Mrs Davies's parents were also brought in as a primary source. Some very old artefacts indeed!

I wish I had some video footage of the children's faces as they tried the Cod Liver Oil. I never thought I would laugh so much during inspection week!
On Tuesday morning we were set the challenge of annotating a story ending.

We were given some different story endings and asked to look for features of a good story.

We had to look for alliteration, similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia and rhetorical questions.

We annotated these on large sheets of paper.

We then had to write our own story endings using the elements we had found.

Later, we read our story endings out to the class, and evaluated them using Tickled Pink or Green for Growth.
