This afternoon we went into the village to look for places to put our 'dog mess' posters, appropriate areas to place 'dog bins', and to interview members of the public about this issue.

Outside the Athletic Club we met the Chairwoman of the Glamorgan W.I. and her assistant. We asked them their opinions about the problem of 'dog mess' in Pontyclun. Both ladies agreed that it was disgusting and suggested that we write to the council. They agreed that more bins were needed and that fines should be enforced on offending owners.

As the lanes outside our school are often fouled with 'dog mess' we decided that this would be an ideal place to put some posters and a bin.

'Lots of people walk their children and their dog to school in the morning. This would encourage them to pick up their dog's mess,' said Ioan.

'This community display board would be ideal to display one of our posters,' said Caitlin.

We interviewed Miss Giles from Giles Pictures. The alley behind her shop is often fouled by dogs.

'Are you a dog owner?' asked Daniel.

'I am,' replied Miss Giles, 'but I always pick up my dog's mess. Once, my dog made a mess on the floor and I didn't have any dog bags. I made my mother stand guard over the mess, while I went home to get a bag to clear it up!'

We decided that shop windows might be a good place to put our posters. Ioan explained our mission to the manager of the Charity Shop. She was more than willing to put up one of our posters, as the alley behind her shop is often covered in 'dog mess.'

When we got to the rugby club we encountered a strange coincidence! The manager, Oneata, had only just got off the phone to the Environmental Health Agency to complain about dog owners failing to clear up after their pets. She told us that even though there are 'dog bins' on the rugby field, people are too lazy to use them. Also the lower rugby field where many of our Y6 boys play is covered with 'dog mess.' She told us that she would be very happy to put up some of our posters in and around the Rugby Club.

We then met Carolyn who works in the Vets. She invited us into the surgery and talked to us about the problems that 'dog mess' can cause to our health. She was very happy to display some of our posters.

'You find worms and worm eggs in dog's mess. These can cause serious diseases in humans.'

Our last stop was the library. Mrs Edwards explained that there had been a problem with 'dog mess' outside the library until they introduced free 'dog bags.' She also told us that Llantrisant Council have provided Llantrisant with more 'dog bins', and that we should try to make sure that Pontyclun is treated in the same way. Mrs Edwards kindly agreed to display our posters.

Throughout the afternoon we all made notes and wrote down quotes.

Tomorrow we will adapt these notes and express our findings using I.C.T and Communication Skills.
