Today we were asked the question 'WHY IS THERE A POLLUTION PROBLEM IN PARIS?'
We looked at ways in which people travel to and within Paris.
Paris is served by a tramway. We decided that this was quite a clean mode of transport as it uses electricity and does not produce many fumes.

There are two major international airports in Paris. Charles de Gaulle International Airport is one of the busiest in the world. Air travel is a major contributor to pollution. We are being advised not to travel by air too much to decrease our carbon footprints.

Paris's most important transport system is the Metro. It carries 4.5 million passengers a day. We decided that it did cause pollution, but because it was underground it was not as bad as some forms of transport.

Paris has 6 major railway stations. We thought that trains added to the air pollution problem through their emissions, but did help with the parking and congestion problems.

We thought that walking was the cleanest form of transport, provided that walkers do not drop litter.

Like the trains, we thought that bus travel would produce emissions, but could help with the parking and congestion problems.

Cars cause a big problem in Paris. There are lots of traffic jams and people find it very difficult to park. Paris has over 2,000km of highways and motorways.
We looked at all these methods of transport and rated them according to the amount of pollution caused. We will next compare these results to methods of transport in Pontyclun and Cardiff.
We will post our results later.
