This afternoon we watched a video about floating and sinking.

We talked about up thrust and the reasons why some things float and some things sink.

We were then set the challenge to build a boat that would support a certain mass.

We had to think about size, shape and buoyancy.

We were given 4 sheets of paper, 5 plastic straws, 10 art straws and unlimited cellotape with which to make our boats.

We then named our boats and estimated the mass that they would carry before sinking.

Later we tested our boats to discover which group would be the winner.
