Today in History we had to discuss changes that children faced due to the outbreak of World War Two.

We used books, the Internet and our prior knowledge as sources.

In our groups we had to list 9 changes that may have affected children's lives.

We then used a STRATEGY called DIAMOND NINE to rate the changes in order of the most important to the least important.
As a class we then rated the effects of these changes.
We decided that EVACUATION probably caused the biggest change.
We also thought that living in danger of bombing and the fear of deaths of family members were a close second and third.

The rationing of food and clothing were third and fourth on our final list.

Changes in education, as many male teachers went to war, and digging for Britain came fifth and sixth.
Fathers serving in the Forces while Mothers went out to work was our seventh choice.
Not being able to go on holiday was not counted as very important.
While the difficulties of transport, due to the War effort, was ranked Ninth.
We then took it in turns to write our ideas on the white board on a Diamond Nine template on which we were able to move our preferences to the appropriate positions. These ideas were then discussed and agreed upon by the class.
This lesson we were able to use our COMMUNICATION, THINKING and ICT skills.
